I’m not sure how I’m supposed to feel about this. It seems everyone at PoolDawg felt I was a little worse for wear after spending a couple of years traveling around the US. Sure, my tail broke off, my leg was busted, I had a hole in my thigh and another in my neck, but that doesn’t mean I need to be put out to pasture, right?

As it has been explained to me, I’m sort of like Santa. There’s only one of me, but I can’t be everywhere at once so Mike’s going to send out some “local” Franks to help out and spread billiards cheer while I’m hanging out with Sarah.

Can I just say that getting a mold made is seriously not fun. Thankfully, holding still isn’t much of an issue for me, but the goo for the mold is pretty gross. Anyway, in case you were wondering, here’s what “local Frank” looks like in the building stage:

He’s not nearly as pretty as me, but in a few weeks he’ll be all gussied up and ready for the road.

All About Uga

Yes, I’m still in mourning over the untimely death of Uga VII. Dude was a stud and died way too soon. Interim Uga Russ is now 2-0 as the Dawgs mascot, so campaigns are underway to officially make him the new UGA VIII. In honor of the Dawg’s victory over Texas A&M in the Independence bowl, I got Mike the marketing guy to drop the prices on some Georgia Bulldogs cue balls.

For those of you who don’t know the history of Uga, it goes a little something like this:

THE UGA LINEAGE

•Uga I: “Hood’s Ole Dan” (1956-66): Record 53-48-6
•Uga II: “Ole Dan’s Uga” (1966-72): Record 42-16-3, two SEC championships, five bowl games.
•Uga III: “Seiler’s Uga Three” (1972-80): Record 71-32-2, National Championship
•Uga IV: “Seiler’s Uga Four” (1981-89): Record 77-27-4, Dubbed “Dog of the Decade”
•Uga V: “Magillicuddy II” (1990-99): Record 65-39-1. Appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated and was named “nation’s best college mascot.”
•Uga VI: “Whatchagot Loran” (1999-2008): Record 87-27. Winningest dog in the history the University.
•Uga VII: “Loran’s Best” (2008-09): Record 16-7. Died too young at the tender age of 4.
•Interim Uga: “Russ” (2009). Record 2-0. Half-brother of the late Uga VII.

Bummer in Boulder

Just heard that the place we shot our new commercial has shut down. The Foundry, one of Boulder’s only pool halls shut its doors this weekend. There are other places to play pool in Boulder of course, but the Foundry was one of the better known places, even if their tables weren’t in very good condition.

Rousey’s in China, the Foundry closes, this isn’t shaping up to be a very happy week for old Frank T. Dawg.

Never Trust A Stand In

As I’m sure you’ve all guessed, shooting a commercial takes a lot of time and work. Its never done in just one take, which means we have to do the same thing over and over again. After about the 20th take, I needed a break. Now I have some “stand ins” that help me out from time to time (being a full time mascot can be pretty exhausting, you know). Well, one of the stand ins weaseled his way into one of the takes. The results were pretty disastrous.

It all goes really well until the end of the shot. That’s when “the other” Frank gets all nervous and ends up piddling on the cards. Seriously not cool. Naturally I kept a copy of it just as a reminder to that marketing guy that you can’t replace old Frank T. Dawg.

Sad news coming out of Los Angeles. Unfortunately, last night the world’s coolest Chihuahua passed away. Gidget, the star of the “Yo Quiero Taco Bell” commercials died from a stroke Tuesday night.

From 1997 to 2000, Gidget was the most famous dog on the planet, knocking former famous spokesdog Spuds McKenzie off the pedistal with a series of commercials that not only made the chalupa mainstream but also unleashed a maelstrom of merchandise like we’ve never seen before. Bobbleheads, t-shirts, stuffed animals and more, all reminding the world that they should stop off at Taco Bell.
